GRAND CANYON National Park

The following video clips were taken from a video that was shot during the river trip by Nigel.

The original tape was in PAL format and he had a copy made for me in NTSC format. I captured the video clips to my PC using an Intel Smart Video Recorder III board, which I borrowed from a friend, and then converted the resulting AVI files to Mpeg format, which cut the size in half. I used John Schlichther's AVI2MPG1 program (freeware) to perform the AVI to MPG conversion. The resulting file sizes are still very large and will take a while to download over a 28.8 modem but if you've got the bandwidth or the patience I am sure that you will enjoy them.

Thanks Nigel!

Late afternoon sun illuminating the cliffs from our Lava Canyon campsite. Introduced by Linda. Desert View and Commanche Point in the distance.

Crystal Rapid

This is one rapid where the big, motorized rafts have all the fun. The rapid is just too menacing for a small raft to tackle the big waves.

Vulcan's Anvil

That little yellow speck (for scale?) to the left of Vulcan's Anvil is my raft.

Now this was FUN!

If you need a Mpeg plug-in I highly recommend EyeQ from InterVU. The installation process is a bit time consuming but I did not encounter any problems and it runs like a charm.
Remember to shut down and restart your browser after doing the install or it won't be able to see the new plug-in.
