Michael's flight out of Phoenix was at 900am which meant getting him to the airport by 7am, which meant leaving Flagstaff by 430am. Luckily there is no traffic at that time of morning and we made it will a few minutes to spare. He probably didn't need two hours at that time of day anyway but better safe than sorry.
My flight was not until 12:49 so I had some time to kill. The Desert Botanical Garden opened at 8am so that sounded like the perfect place to kill a couple of hours. It was still too early to head over there and I was hungry so I stopped at an IHOP first and had myself some breakfast.
I arrived at the Desert Botanical Garden a few minutes before they opened so I got in right away. The place was just as beautiful as I had remembered and it was a very enjoyable way to kill a couple of hours. Unfortunately the cacti were not yet in bloom except for a couple of early bloomers but there were some other flowers and I really just enjoy all of the different varieties of cactus and other succulents.
There were lots of birds around as well and I saw many mourning doves, Gila woodpeckers, cactus wrens, hummingbirds and quail. I did spot one roadrunner near the entrance to the park but Wile E. Coyote was nowhere to be found. It was also nice to visit the butterfly exhibit.
I probably could have stayed a little longer but I forced myself to leave at 10am and head back to the airport to await my flight home. All good things...
