I arrived at the Canyon late on a Friday afternoon after driving from Las Vegas. I had been in Vegas for a convention all week and this trip was purposely planned to be tacked on to the end of that. I drove out along the West Rim Drive to a couple of the overlooks just to see what I could make out of the Tonto Trail below. I did manage to spot large sections of it from the rim and I could not wait to be walking on them.
