The Santa Fe Railway Depot was designed by Santa Barbara architect Francis Wilson and was completed in 1909. It is one of only three remaining log depots in the country. The design of the structure was based on that of the El Tovar Hotel. The first train arrived at Grand Canyon on September 17, 1901, well before the station was built. The 3-hour trip from Williams, Arizona, 60 miles to the south, to Grand Canyon Village cost $3.95.
